Join us for our annual KSDVS Fall Conference!

Workshop Description:

Innovation for Change, Growth, and Sustainability!

It’s a changing world. And, in times of change, organizations have a choice: endure change… or embrace it. In this workshop, we will explore how embracing change can help your organization not only survive, but thrive! Discover how piloting new engagement initiatives can help you nurture a culture of innovation and learning. Successful pilot projects such as new skills-based volunteer roles, volunteer-led programs, or new training protocols can help your organization test new ideas, engage new generations of volunteers, and increase efficiency and effectiveness within your healthcare facility.

In this workshop, we will set the stage by briefly exploring trends (including shifting generational volunteer patterns) and challenges in volunteer engagement. Then, we will delve into the power of innovation – sharing stories of successful volunteer pilot projects designed to engage new generations, build capacity, or enhance engagement at their organizations. Through a series of activities and group exercises, participants will have the chance to design their own pilot project. We will also share tools and resources on supporting pilot teams to success and on being an effective a change manager – especially leading staff-volunteer teams and multi-generational teams.

About Us

Healthcare facilities are facing new challenges: They must provide high-quality services with shrinking resources in a highly competitive and constantly changing healthcare nilieu.  Under these conditions of reduced resources and increased need for community support, an effective volunteer program takes on heightened significance.

Current competition for volunteer support requires that Directors of Volunteer Services be proficient in the traditional sense of management - planning, organizing, directing, and controlling.  In addition, they must be experts in human resources management with emphasis on the human element.  The goal is to integrate volunteers into services that are satisfying and productive.

The Director of Volunteer Services must be empathetic and effective with persons of diverse ages, backgrounds, and skills.  The director should have firm understanding of human behavior and motivation and, of equal importance, should be a skilled communicator.

Many of our members are seasoned professionals.  Any KSDVS member can call upon another member for information, consultation, and support with any aspect of volunteer administration.  KSDVS educational workshops and conferences are designed to improve volunteer programs and improve the performance of the Director of Volunteer Services.
